Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Pipeline Repair Environmental Guidance System (PREGS). Under development since 2005, PREGS was intended to serve as an Internet-based communication tool to enhance the timeliness and environmental stewardship of pipeline inspection and repair activities. With your support of PREGS, PHMSA, in coordination with a federal interagency committee, was able to:
- Generate widespread awareness of issues related to permit streamlining for pipeline inspection and repairs
- Draft over 90 best management practices for pipeline inspections and repairs
- Convene and facilitate numerous outreach and training sessions on permit streamlining for pipeline inspections and repairs, including the conducting of a pilot testing period during which a select group of operators used PREGS on a trial basis.
Based on results of the pilot testing period and the results of a data collection effort focused on the regulatory need for an expedited permit review process, PREGS has been discontinued at this time. This website will remain a source of environmental guidance information for pipeline activities.
If you need guidance on NWP-47 issues, please consult your relevant district office. A list of district offices is available here.
If you have other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact PHMSA's Roger Little at (202) 366-4569 or Roger.Little@dot.gov.
